Pre-Capitular Assembly Opening Remarks

Fr. Charles Obanya

You are most welcome to the Pre Capitular Assembly. It will be a new experience for all us for two reasons. Firstly; it is our first Pre Capitular Assembly as a Mega Province of Eastern Africa. Some of us capitulants will be meeting for the first time. In some ways this Assembly will bring together the cultures of the previously two provinces - TANKENSUD and Uganda. Secondly, we shall be analyzing our Society and its contexts with a rich methodology that we have not used before. We can expect a good outcome.

We are all aware that a pre capitular assembly is an important tool in the preparation of the General Chapter Chapter. Through the pre capitular Assemblies we shape the future Life and work of our Society, a task that we accomplish at the chapter.

The functions of the Pre Cap Assembly will be as given in CLS 187

1. Count the votes of the first ballot for the election of the Deputies for the Chapter and, if necessary (1720, continues with the election procedures in accordance with the provisions of articles 173 -175.

2. Give opinion on the questions that the Superior General asks it to study with a view to drawing up the programme to be proposed to the Chapter.

3. Propose questions to the Superior General to be included on the Chapter’s programme.

4. Study those questions which concern the running of Province.

I invite you all to own the process of the Assembly and to participate well in the discussions.  Let us do this knowing that the ownership and participation is not just for us who have been elected to come but for those who elected us.

Fr. Charles Obanya

Provincial Superior, EAP
